In the 1990s, the internet was still in its infancy and the gatekeepers to a mass market of viewers for our photographs were the publishers of books and magazines. We would take field trips to the book store and browse through all genres of magazines and books doing research on which publishing companies were using photos. It made me think twice about how impactful my images are when I post them on Instagram.ĭuring my undergraduate studies, I took a course from Mary V Swanson, that was based in the business of photography and getting published. So they were consuming images, or videos without ever once stopping to appreciate the imagery they were seeing. ![]() They were constantly sliding their finger up or down the screen. I noticed that none of them were reading. ![]() I was in line at the grocery store and 5 of the 6 people in line (I was the sixth) were scrolling through something.
